Furniture with a conscience
Sustainability
At Yaffle & Bosk, sustainability isn’t just a consideration, it’s at the heart of everything we do. From the very beginning our mission has been to handcraft eco-friendly, sustainable furniture using locally sourced West Country hardwoods and low-impact practices. We believe that the future of our woodlands and forests is directly linked to the future of our craft, which is why we’re committed to doing things differently.
We are Grown in Britain (GiB) accredited and work exclusively with accredited sawmills and suppliers. We only use timber grown and harvested in the West Country from sustainable sources, ensuring complete transparency and traceability. We strive to know the provenance of the tree itself, which originate from sustainably managed country estates, woodlands and National trust properties from across the South West of England.
Trees used are often storm blown or part of a long-term woodland management plan, and by sourcing from well-managed West Country woodlands, Estates and small scale local sawmills, we reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation. This also supports regional economies and encourages woodland biodiversity by creating a demand for native species like oak, ash, and beech, all woods with rich character and exceptional durability.
Offcuts are repurposed for smaller projects, or donated to local community groups. Much of our waste chippings are repurposed for local farms to use as animal bedding or on the land as mulch. All of our finishes are low-VOC, plant-based oils and waxes that are safe for both people and the planet with no toxic lacquers, nor synthetic sealants. Packaging, too, is plastic-free, recyclable, and often made from recycled materials.
We believe sustainability extends beyond materials. It’s also about craftsmanship and longevity. Every Yaffle & Bosk piece is made to last a lifetime, with timeless design and solid joinery that resists the need for replacement. In a world driven by fast furniture and fleeting trends, we advocate for a slower, more mindful approach. We encourage customers to invest in fewer, better things, objects with meaning, provenance, and a story to tell.
Our commitment to sustainability also includes working closely with our clients to make conscious choices. We offer complete transparency about materials, provenance, and processes, and we’re happy to advise on the most sustainable options for custom commissions.
Sustainability isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. And at Yaffle & Bosk, we’re proud to walk it with purpose, integrity, and creativity, crafting furniture that’s as good for the earth as it is for the home.
